Information for patients
The Cancer Registry is a system for collecting information on patients with specific tumors and certain blood disorders. The information collected includes a confidential summary on diagnosis, treatment and lifetime follow-up. All information is collected by trained personnel and is held in strict confidence. The Cancer Registry at Tulane University Hospital & Clinic is interested in every patient's progress after their diagnosis of cancer. The Cancer Registry follows your progress annually through your physician. If we are unable to update your progress through your physician we will contact you by letter. The information collected on each patient through lifetime follow-up is used by our physicians and other organizations to determine which cancer treatments return positive results, what new therapies are needed, what new equipment and diagnostic techniques are needed. This information helps us give the best cancer care to you and all patients at Tulane Cancer Center. The Cancer Registry is helping in the fight against cancer. You have an important role in this fight. In order to collect complete and accurate data we need to hear from you once a year. When you receive a letter from the Registry, please fill it out and return it to our office.
Information for Referring Physicians
The Tulane Cancer Registry has been collecting cancer information since 1993. Information in the Registry includes demographic, diagnostic, treatment information and lifetime follow-up. Information collected in the registry can be provided for quality of care studies, grant applications and research activities. Information provided by the Registry is varied. Some examples include: determining stage at diagnosis, what counties your patients are coming from, treatment patterns, number of cases for a specific primary site annually, and survival studies.
