Welcome to the Center for Cardiovascular Health

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR: Gerald S. Berenson, M.D.

Welcome to our Web site. I hope that you will find the following both informative and useful. Although the Tulane Center for Cardiovascular (C V) Health was newly created (1991), we have worked toward our goals for over four decades. Initially we were conducting research on the Biochemistry of C V connective tissue at Louisiana State University Medical Center being supported by funds from the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Later, a NHLBI Specialized Center of Research – Arteriosclerosis (SCOR-A) was awarded and provided funds to begin the Bogalusa Heart Study. Our group moved to Tulane University in 1991 to begin the Tulane Center for Cardiovascular Health.

The mission of the Tulane Center for C V Health is to prevent heart disease in future generations, by understanding the origin of major causes of adult heart diseases, atherosclerosis, hypertension and diabetes, and by applying prevention modalities. We are committed to this goal through our research, training, education and community programs that promote healthy lifestyles to reduce risk factors related to C V disease.

Join us now for a quick trip through our programs. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
