S15C1-BORDERLAND 2 (HOME)
Richard J. Reed, M.D., New Orleans, LA
This is Section 15, HOME. The conventions are the same as for Sections 1-13. This section is structured in three tiers. Tier 1 is HOME; there is only a single chapter at tier 1. Tier 2 is devoted to textual
materials; there are multiple chapters at tier 2. Tier 3 is devoted to pictorials; there are multiple chapters.
In the MASTERBORDER to the left, there are clusters of navigation aids. The first cluster is a first level cluster; it is blue. A click on an item in this
clusters will provide access to HOME, and to all of the textual chapters at level 2. The next (beige
) cluster provides access to parent textual chapters at tier 2 and to groups of pictorials at level 3. Parent textual chapters, in any of the clusters, are identified with and “-X.” Each parent chapter is related to a group of pictorials at tier 3. The relationships become important, if the reader attempts to access pictorials in sequence at level 3. Such a search, if attempted with either the BACK button or the sequence (NEXT) button at the end of each chapter, will be successful only in relationship to groups of pictorials that are the “children” of a particular parent chapter at level 2. The vertically oriented,
beige cluster in the MASTERBORDER to the left is incomplete; it is continued as a beige
, horizontal cluster at the end of the page. The mauve
cluster at the end of each page provides access to other sections on this site (i.e., this CD). At the end of each page a cluster of two green
bars provides access to two web sites. Also at the end of each chapter, there is also an UP button that will take the reader up one level. If the reader is at level 3, a click on this button will take the reader to the respective parent textual page at tier 2. If the reader is at level 2, a click on this button will take the reader to tier 1 (HOME). Another button (NEXT) provides access, in a spatial sequence, to the next page along the horizontal axis of the tier. The third extra button (BACK) takes the reader back a page in a spatial sequence along the axis of the respective tier. If additional information regarding navigations on this site is required, the reader should refer to the SITE DIAGRAM (see respective button [navigation aids] at end of each page; on this section the button for the SITE DIAGRAM is the last button in the
mauve cluster at the end of the page (chapter).
Borderland 2:
This site is an extension of Section 13. Perhaps, it is even more removed from true inflammatory diseases. Some of the borderline disorders are neoplasms of uncertain biologic potential in which the component cells
have histiocytic, or fibrohistiocytic properties. Some of the inflammatory diseases in this section are borderline in regard to making a decision as to the proper categorical assignment; for example, should
Wegener’s disease be assigned to the category of collagenosis, or vasculitis? Can the two categories be separated in a meaningful manner? Some of the borderline disorders are problems in making a decision as to the
basic nature of the process; lymphoid lesions are included in this section. The implications of the diagnosis of lymphocytic infiltrate of Jessner require that cautions should accompany such a diagnosis; what might
appear to be an inflammatory process may instead be a precursor stage of a lymphoma.
