S9C1-COLLAGENOSES
SECTION 9
Chapter 1 (HOME)
Richard J. Reed, M.D., New Orleans, LA
You are at Section 9, Chapter 1 (HOME). This section is structured in three tiers. Clusters of navigation bars in the MASTERBORDER, on the left and at the end of the page, provide the reader access to the
chapters of this section and to other sections. The blue first cluster in the MASTERBORDER to the left provides access to HOME and to the textual chapters of tier
2. Two bars in a green cluster at the end of each page provide access to web sites. The (beige)
clusters, in the MASTERBORDER and continued at the end of each page, provide access both to groups of pictorials at the 3rd tier, and to their parent textual chapters at the 2nd tier. The mauve cluster, at the end of each page, provides access to other sections on this site. The horizontally oriented beige cluster at the end of each page is a continuation of the vertically oriented beige cluster in the MASTERBORDER. Items
in all clusters that are marked with an “-X” are navigation bars providing access to parent, textual chapters; these chapters have relevance to particular groups of pictorials at tier 3. A click on any
underlined items in the body of the text will take the reader to an item as identified by the respective label. The reader’s browser buttons also are an aid in moving about each section.
An IMAGE MAP (this section, Chapter 2, tier 2) provides access to the pictorials by caption number and diagnosis. A SECTION MAP follows the IMAGE MAP on the same page; it provides a brief description of reaction patterns as related to specific sections. There are three additional navigational aids at the end of each chapter of this section. Movement among the pictorials, utilizing the
NEXT
(sequence) BAR at the end of each page, is limited. At level 3 using the NEXT bar, the number of accessible pictorials is defined by a relationship to a parent textual page (a page identified with an “-X” at level 2). Having exhausted the choices related to one textual page, the reader must address a new textual page (i.e., in the MASTERBORDER,
beige cluster, S-C-item with “-X” as suffix) to gain access to a new group of sequenced pictorials. A BACK
button will take the reader back to the preceding page in numerical (spatial) sequence along the horizontal axis of the tier; at level 3, movement is limited by the relationships between a parent textual page at level 2 and a group of relevant pictorials at level 3. In addition, there is a navigation bar that will take the reader
UP to the next tier; if the reader is at tier 3, a click on this aid will take him to the respective parent texual page. If the reader is at tier 2, a click will take the reader to HOME.
THE COLLAGENOSES
This section presents a discussion of some of the diseases of the fibrous components of the reticular dermis and the papillary dermis. The presentation is designed
to present a sufficient number of disorders to provide the reader with the tools to manipulate real and virtual images of the selected disorders and then, hopefully, to use the accummulated images for the
interpretation of even unrelated disorders in which connective tissue changes are an important feature. The reaction patterns are rather limited.
