Pompe's disease

This is the heart of a 9 month old child who died of congestive failure. X-ray showed cardiomegaly. The ventricular walls are enormously thickened. Microscopically there was marked accumulation of glycogen. This is the cardiac variant of glycogen storage disease -- Pompe's disease.
