Large ventricular septal defect
This infant's heart has a large ventricular septal defect, indicated by the probe. As a rule, defects over 1 cm in diameter result in severe pulmonary hypertension frequent repository infection, easy fatigue, exertional dyspnea and retarded development. Congenital heart disease is often associated with chromosomal abnormalities. This child had trisomy 18.
