Hypertrophied and dilated left ventricle

This left ventricle is both hypertrophied and dilated. The dilation tells us that the patient died in failure, in this case due to a dilated aortic valve secondary to luetic aortitis. Notice the dilation of the entire inelastic thoracic aorta. Also, the rupture of one of the valve cusps.
