Here is a close-up photo of the previous case of lobar pneumonia showing the solid, airless parenchyma in the consolidated lobe. Normal spongy lung is a good sound insulator, but this solid tissue easily conducts the bronchial breathing sounds to the chest wall and to your stethoscope.
