You may have been wondering just how one can tell the difference
between the contracted granular kidney of chronic glomerulonephritis
and the contracted granular kidney of essential hypertension. Well
in fact, very often this is impossible. This is such a case. An
individual with terminal renal disease who had both hypertension
and azotemia, and it is impossible to know whether this is basically
essential hypertension or glomerular disease.
