Otolaryngology Clinical Clerkship - Medical Center Of Louisiana, Tulane Medical Center, and Ochsner Foundation (MDOT OT CTO)
Objectives: This course is designed to introduce students to Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
The students will become competent in the head and neck examination and will learn the management of
common head and neck disorders. The students' time is divided equally between the operating room and clinic.

Term: 1 month - Two weeks at Medical Center of Louisiana, one week at Tulane Medical Center, and one week at Ochsner Hospital.
Quota: 5 students
Evaluation: The students are evaluated by the chief residents and faculty. A final examination is not required.
Basic Otolaryngology - Head And Neck Surgery, Ochsner Foundation Hospital (MDOT OT OCH)
Objectives: To expose students to the office and surgical aspects of this surgical specialty.
The accomplishment of a reasonably competent examination of the nose, throat, ears, and neck as
well as some exposure to audiometric, histopathologic and radiographic aspects of the specialty
will be accomplished.

Otolaryngology For The Primary Care Physician (MDOT PRM C/T)
This course will allow Senior students interested in a career in Primary Care and opportunity
to develop expertise in the specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Students will
participate in daily clinics and surgery at the respective institutions. Students will have
the opportunity to examine patients presenting with head and neck pathologties commonly seen
in the office of a Pediatrician, General Internist, or Family Physician such as : otitis media,
sinusitis, tonsillitis, and other upper respiratory tract infections, allergic rhinitis,
and various benign and malignant neoplasms of the head and neck region. A basic introduction
into the interpretaiton of audiograms and other audiologic and vestibular tests will be provided.
Objectives:
The objectives of this Selective are to give students the opportunity:
- to develop skills in the head and neck,
- to learn preventative measures and early detection of common ENT problems,
- to acquire management skills in common ENT problems, and 4) to know when specialty consultation is warranted.
Outline:
2 weeks at MCLNO and 2 weeks at Tulane University Hospital & Clinics. Meet with faculty
and staff at the respective institutions five days a week. Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
Participation in weekly didactic departmental conferences is mandatory.

Method Of Evaluating Student Performance: Students will be evaluated by the chief residents
and faculty upon completion of the rotation. A final grade will be recommended for each student
and an evaluation sheet will be completed.

with each student at the end of the rotation to discuss how the course objectives, as well the
student's expectations of this Selective were met.

written evaluation of the Selective that will be sent to Dr. Amedee and other members of the faculty.
