General Objectives

  1. To understand the problem of emerging antibiotic resistance, both in the U.S. and world-wide
  2. To review strategies for rationale use of antibiotic prescribing in the outpatient setting
  3. To review strategies for targeted, pathogen-specific antibiotic prescribing in the inpatient setting
  4. To review strategies for surveillance of nosocomial infections and to learn how infection control committees function in hospitals.

Agenda

Total time of seminar = 180 minutes

  • Lecture = none
  • Reading assigned articles = 30 minutes
  • Working in pairs = 30 minutes
  • Working in small group = 40 minutes
  • Total group discussion = 40 minutes
  • Break = 10 minutes
  • Time allotted as needed = 30 minutes
