This seminar will present the EPEC Module 4 on Pain Management in one afternoon; comprising three
sessions divided by two break/refresh periods
Students will be provided with EPEC Module 4 to review prior to the session
- this will take about one hour

Part 1 - Principles of Pain Management
Goals and Objectives - Part 1
- Compare, contrast nociceptive, neuropathic pain
- Know steps of analgesic management
Agenda
Total time of section = 60 minutes
- Lecture = 30 minutes
- Total group discussion of real world clinical examples = 30 minutes
- Inter-session Break 15m
Part 2 - Equianalgesic Dosing
Goals and Objectives - Part 2
- Know alternative routes for delivery of opioid analgesics
- Demonstrate ability to convert between opioids while maintaining analgesia

- Working in small group to solve conversion problems = 15 minutes
- Group discussion of real world clinical examples = 15 minutes

Part 3 - Adjuvants, Adverse Effects, Barriers
Goals and Objectives - Part 3
- Know use of adjuvant analgesic agents
- Know adverse effects of analgesics, their management
- List barriers to pain management
