This seminar will present the EPEC Module 4 on Pain Management in one afternoon; comprising three sessions divided by two break/refresh periods

Students will be provided with EPEC Module 4 to review prior to the session

Part 1 - Principles of Pain Management

Goals and Objectives - Part 1

  1. Compare, contrast nociceptive, neuropathic pain
  2. Know steps of analgesic management
Agenda
Total time of section = 60 minutes
  • Lecture = 30 minutes
  • Total group discussion of real world clinical examples = 30 minutes
  • Inter-session Break 15m

Part 2 - Equianalgesic Dosing

Goals and Objectives - Part 2

  1. Know alternative routes for delivery of opioid analgesics
  2. Demonstrate ability to convert between opioids while maintaining analgesia
Agenda
Total time of section = 60 minutes
  • Lecture = 30 minutes
  • Working in small group to solve conversion problems = 15 minutes
  • Group discussion of real world clinical examples = 15 minutes
  • Inter-session Break 15m

Part 3 - Adjuvants, Adverse Effects, Barriers

Goals and Objectives - Part 3

  1. Know use of adjuvant analgesic agents
  2. Know adverse effects of analgesics, their management
  3. List barriers to pain management

  • Lecture = 30 minutes
  • Working in small group to solve EPEC pain problems = 10 minutes
