Medical Microbiology is a 6 unit course required of all second year medical students and offered to
graduate students. The course material provides a basic knowledge structure and function of bacteria,
viruses, and fungi, pathogenesis of these organisms, and the interactions between host and pathogen.
The teaching format for the course includes lectures, laboratory exercises, small group sessions and
clinical correlations.
The course is offered in the spring semester and is coordinated with material in pathology, pharmacology
and clinical correlates in infectious disease.
