Biography
Dr. Cherian Verghese is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He joined the Medical College of the University of Kerala at Trivandrum where he received his Medical Doctorate. He remained at MCH-Trivandrum to complete a Senior Research Fellowship in Medicine, sponsored by CSIR (Council for Scientific & Industrial Research), Govt of India. Following his residency at LICH, Dr.Verghese joined the faculty at Tulane University and worked in the Dept of Medicine at Huey P. Long Medical Center of the Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division. Dr.Verghese has also taught Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Barry Z. Levine School of Health Sciences of Touro University, New York. He has been a recipient of the "Young Faculty Award" of the American Association of Anatomists. Presently Dr. Verghese is active clinically seeing patients in the downtown clinic and hospital of the Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. He is active in the medicine teaching programs for the medical students and residents, teaching them on the wards and in his clinic. Dr.Verghese is also active in giving Lectures/Grand Rounds for other services/departments at the hospital.
Research Interests
Primary research interest involves evaluating the metastatic potential of prostate cancer using cellular markers like NfKB.
