Biography
Dr. Jan Cooper is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans , LA. She received her BA from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she majored in Social Anthropology. She matriculated to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she received her MD in 1982. She then completed a residency program in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology at Tulane University School of Medicine.

After one year in private practice in New Orleans practicing Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, Dr. Cooper returned to Tulane and joined the faculty, in 1988, in the Section of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine. She has maintained a busy internal medicine practice while staying involved in the clinical education of medical students and residents. Since 2002, she has also been involved in administration as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.

Clinical and Research Interests
Her main interests are minority affairs, diversity issues in health care, and health disparities.
