Introduction
The 2005-2006 academic year was an extremely challenging one as our institution experienced extensive damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Our losses affected not just the buildings that compose our Health Sciences Center but more importantly the people who occupy them. The extent of personal tragedy is not to be overlooked. But, collectively we are emerging as a revitalized entity that is ready to engage the numerous issues that face our institution and the city we all call home. Tulane University School of Medicine is proud of its 172 year history of service to the citizens of New Orleans, and we are equally proud of our current role as a leader in the rebuilding of an important healthcare infrastructure. It is Tulane's objective and responsibility to not simply long for how things used to be, but to seize this important opportunity to enhance our educational programs in an effort to ensure another 172 years of effective service to the patients we are priviledged to treat and to hundreds of residents that will entrust to us the best years of their lives while completing their graduate medical education. The 2006 NRMP Match was one of our best in decades with an emphasis placed on quality not quantity of applicants. All of our programs filled except for one slot which was successfully scrambled for in a mere eleven minutes. New and present house officers view our current reorganization as a unique, once in a lifetime situation that will certainly enhance their training experience. Training in our programs will offer a very dynamic experience that will serve as a continual source of pride to our graduates. Be a part of something special in GME... only at Tulane University School of Medicine...only in New Orleans!
