After the memorial service for Dr. Whitecloud Saturday, I sat in my office and contemplated the life of a man I was privileged to call both my friend and doctor. Tom was a true "gentleman" in every sense of the word. He was a gentle giant but was not afraid to stand up for what he believed to be right. Tom was particularly proud of his Native American heritage. He was a member of the Chippewa people and the service was a unique blend of Native American and western culture. He was a champion of diversity and sought to help people of all races succeed in Medicine. I will miss his wise council and friendly smile.
