Robert H. Miller, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Miller received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tulane University in 1969. He completed requirements for awarding of a Medical Doctorate degree from the School of Medicine in 1973. He was also named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society that same year. He traveled to Los Angeles, California to complete Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residency training in 1978 at UCLA Medical Center.

After years of academic practice at Baylor in Houston, he returned to New Orleans in 1987 to become the fifth chairman of the Tulane Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. What Bob accomplished during the next twelve years was nothing short of phenomenal. In addition to advancing the academic mission of the department, he was instrumental in doing the same at the Health Science level. Furthermore, his dedication to the specialty on a national level was equally outstanding. Bob literally wrote the book on How to be an Effective Administrator!

While chair of the department, he received his M.B.A. from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 1996. A year later, he completed a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship in Senator John Breaux's office (Washington, DC). He left Tulane in 1999 to become the Dean of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He returned to New Orleans as a Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology in 2002, until he assumed his current position as Executive Director of the American Board of Otolaryngology in 2004. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Otolaryngology, and served as the Executive Secretary/Treasurer of the Triological Society from 1992 to 2004. He has an extensive bibliography which includes invited lectures and presentations, published abstracts, peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters.

Bob has spent the majority of his professional life advancing the cause of academic otolaryngology in the United States. His teaching capabilities remain second to none and his commitment to academic enrichment in this arena is enviable. His contributions to Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Tulane University School of Medicine will live on for many years after his tenure has passed.
