Welcome to Tulane Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery!

As we begin our 90th year as an autonomous department it is only appropriate that we reflect back on the many challenges we faced during the previous academic year. Hurricane Katrina was an "equal opportunity" national disaster which inflicted heavy losses not just on the buildings which constitute our school of medicine, but more importantly on the dedicated faculty, staff, and residents who occupy them. In the aftermath of the storm, numerous accounts of personal heroism emerged and members of this department were cited for putting their own lives on the line to provide continued quality patient care in the midst of one of the largest medical evacuations ever attempted. Of note, not one patient was lost and all Tulane personnel were airlifted to safety some 7-8 days after the storm made landfall.

It is this department's objective and responsibility to not simply recreate what we once had but to seize this unique opportunity to rebuild our entire program in an effort to insure another 90 years of effective service to the patients we are privileged to treat and to the future outstanding otolaryngology residents that will entrust to us the best years of their lives while advancing their professional careers.

As we look ahead to the next academic year, our primary goals are to
continue to provide quality patient care, to provide outstanding
opportunities for future generations of otolaryngologists, and to balance all this with a commitment to invest our time and talents on meaningful basic/clinical science research. We are capable of achieving these objectives by working closely with our partners and related medical staff at Tulane University Hospital and Clinic.

I realize that there is always room for individual and specialty
improvement. It is my responsibility to serve the department and the
health sciences center by making it possible for all of us to perform at our very best. After all, our motto is "Small but Mighty"... and that is exactly what Tulane Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is all about!
