Clinical Expertise Our faculty have broad clinical interests and broad clinical experience. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, many are well recognized leaders in their field of expertise and are in leadership roles. For example, each of our pulmonologists have special talents and responsibilities. Scott Davis, MD, heads the Cystic Fibrosis Center. Mike Kiernan, MD , developed Tulane Hospital's electronic medical records. Bob Hopkins, MD, is boarded in both Pulmonology and Pediatric Critical Care. Fernando Urrego, MD, is double boarded in Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. These pediatricians exhibit the broad intellectual interests and training which characterize the Tulane / Ochsner faculty. In the same vein, our Pediatric Nephrologists, Samir El-Dahr, MD , Franca Lorember, MD, and Ihor Yosypiv, MD , and Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Ilana Fortgang, MD , are intimately involved in the care of children with liver and kidney transplants. The multidisciplinary team at the Tulane Center for Abdominal Transplant have performed more than 3000 transplants. Furthermore, Tulane's Pediatric Allergy/ Immunology/ Rheumatolgy Department, headed by Jane El-Dahr, MD , is currently leading the clinical aspects of the post-Katrina Pediatric Asthma Study funded by NIH, and is also involved in other clinical research projects as well. They work closely with the Pediatric Gastroenterologist to provide care for children with food allergies and eosinophilic esophagitis, as well as linking together the common thread of disorders of the immune system. And, finally, our cardiologists in the Tulane/Ochsner program are at the forefront of the field of Cardiology. Tom Young, MD, who works at both Ochsner and Tulane, is board certified in both pediatrics and internal medicine enabling him to provide transitional care to children with congenital heart lesions. Douglas Moodie, MD was one of the first pediatric cardiologists to follow his patients into adulthood, and also works activly in the area of transitional care, in addition to being the Chairman of Pediatrics at Ochsner. Chris Snyder, MD completed training in electrophysiology after finishing his cardiology fellowship. He is the only pediatric electrophysiologist in the state of Louisiana. Michael White, MD treats patients before they are even born, diagnosing and treating congenital arrhythmias while they are still in utero. Sam Lucus, MD is an interventional cardiologist at the forefront of what can by done by cardiac catheters as the alternative to sending patients for open heart surgery. Dr. Lucus will soon be joined by a second cardiac interventionalist. Broad clinical interests and broad clinical experiences -- our faculty are ready to share and ready to teach!
