Dr.
John W. Thompson, Jr. received his medical degree at the University
of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He completed psychiatry
residency training and a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University
of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. He is Board
Certified in psychiatry with added qualifications in forensic psychiatry
and addiction psychiatry. He is presently the Director of Forensic
Neuropsychiatry and Vice-Chairman of the department of Psychiatry
and Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
In addition, Dr. Thompson is the Director of the Tulane Fellowship
in Forensic Psychiatry and is Clinical Director of Feliciana Forensic
Facility, a 255 bed forensic hospital in Louisiana. Dr. Thompson's
major research interests include the fields of competency restoration,
gambling and the insanity defense.
