Community Medicine Interest Group
CMIG was created to educate the medical community about important issues in
community medicine (racism in medicine, under served populations- homeless,
uninsured, minorities, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.) thus enabling students to
better serve patients they will be working with in the future. Through various
lectures, students learn more about community medicine career opportunities
and become acquainted with new role models. In addition, CMIG encourages
community participation through service projects and community organizations.
CMIG service projects include the NO/AIDS Walk,Prison Health Care,Thanksgiving
lunch for the homeless, World AIDS Day, NOAIDS Task Force talk, and Mardi Gras
Condom Patrol as well as others.
