Jana McDonald, MPH
Field Coordinator for Monitoring and Evaluation

A native of Lake Jackson, TX, Jana McDonald has completed two masters degrees, in International Peace Studies and International Public Health. Her pursuit of humanitarian endeavors has led her to work in places like Kosovo, Palestine, and Chiapas, Mexico as an observer of human rights. She has also worked in promoting maternal health among migrant farm workers on Virginia’s eastern shore. We knew Jana would be a good fit for MARCH in Haiti when she threw herself into the study of the Creole language, and was able to start communicating with her coworkers upon arrival in Mirebalais.

While Jana was hired to do monitoring and evaluation of the HIV Maternal to Child Transmission Prevention Program, the job she has created for herself goes far beyond what we asked her to do. While doing home visits to learn more about the living conditions of our patients, Jana has been deeply affected by the level of poverty she encounters every day in Haiti’s Central Plateau. Thanks to Jana’s response to these needs, MARCH has initiated a social services program to provide much needed financial assistance and food aid to our most destitute patients.
