Internal Medicine

 
  Course Description and Overview
  1. Rotation Dates for Block 4 Students

    1st Rotation: Monday, January 3, 2004 to Sunday, February 1, 2004.

    2nd Rotation: Monday, February 2, 2004 to Wednesday, February 18, 2004.
    (*-inclusive of weekends)

    PRACTICE PRACTICAL EXAM: Wednesday, January 28, 2004, 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Room 7150.

    PRACTICAL EXAM
    The practical examination is Friday, February 13, 2004, 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. in room 7150. A two hour practical examination that will evaluate the student's ability to interpret electrocardiograms, X-rays, blood smears in the context of clinical presentations.

    Free Day:Thursday, February 19, 2004.

    You are excused from all academic and ward duties to prepare for the board examination.

    FINAL EXAM:
    The two hour written NBME "Board Exam" begins at 8:15 a.m. SHARP in room 7150 on Friday, February 20, 2004.

  2. Inpatient Medicine Rotation

    Each student will be assigned to two four week in-patient ward rotations where that student is a member of a health care team comprised of students, interns, residents and faculty member. Refer to specific student responsibilities for more information.

  3. Required Conferences

    All students are expected to attend the following conferences.

    1. Medicine Grand Rounds - every Wednesday at 12 noon in the Medical School Auditorium. (student sign-in sheet) Students assigned to Ochsner are not required to attend Grand Rounds.
    2. Junior Core Lectures Series - Every Tuesday 12:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Every Wednesday 1:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m., 1st & 3rd Thursdays, 1:15 to 4:00 p.m., 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. The lectures are held in room 6001. These lectures are considered essential information for our T-3 Medical Students. This series includes introductory topics in Internal Medicine, electrocardiogram (EKG) sessions, and chest x-ray conferences.

    Junior Core lecture attendance is recorded by the students' completion of the lecture's evaluation form.
