Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)

Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) have been developed to assist personnel in conducting a safe and effective evacuation of our buildings.  A potential evacuation may be required for events such as a fire, police action/civil disturbance, hazardous material, severe weather, utility outage, disease outbreak, explosion/structural collapse, or weapons of mass destruction.  All elements in the plan must be followed.  If you have any immediate questions regarding the plan, please contact the appropriate Departmental Safety Representative (DSR) or others as listed in Section H of the EAP.  This plan will be re-evaluated periodically or when changes are indicated.

The training of personnel in your department must be conducted when the plan is developed or an employee is assigned initially to a job, when the employee’s responsibilities under the plan change and also when the plan is changed.  DSRs will be notified of any changes via email or from meetings held by OEHS. The training of each employee will be the responsibility of the DSR.  Such training may be in the form of reviewing the EAP with the employee and discussing each section.  The employee will know how to report a fire or other emergency; alarm system; procedures for emergency evacuation; type of evacuation; exits, routes, and outside assembly areas; procedures to be followed by employees who remain to operate any critical operations before they evacuate; how to account for employees after evacuation; procedures for any rescue or medical duties; and name or job title of an employee who may be contacted for more information under the plan.  Training must be documented.  The DSR may use a group listing form to be submitted via campus mail to L. Mayer, OEHS, TW 16 or have the employee click on the box at this site labeled:  Documentation of Training.  For a copy of any training forms, please contact L. Mayer via email at lmayer@tulane.edu.
