To combat the rapidly escalating costs of research equipment, the Coordinated Instrumentation Facility (CIF) emphasizes the shared purchasing and use and maintenance of advanced scientific instruments among academic departments. This approach provides access to sophisticated equipment that would be prohibitively expensive for individual scientists and departments. A listing of CIF instrumentation can be found on the facility's website.
The Coordinated Instrumentation Facility's primary location is on the sixth floor of the Lindy Boggs Center of Energy and Technology on the Uptown campus. The CIF provides 5,000 square feet of laboratory space for over $2 millon of major shared-use research equipment supporting Tulane/Xavier environmental projects.
Organic compound identification, elemental analysis, thermal analysis, trace metals analysis, and x-ray analysis are among the services provided by the CIF.
