he Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (TUXCOE) was established as a National Center of Excellence in October 1998 with the purpose to "support innovative national model program projects for comprehensive and coordinated women's health care, public and health care professional education, and research". Currently, it is one of only fourteen of these nationally designated centers through the United States. TUXCOE has successfully created an innovative approach to addressing the inequities in women's health by establishing a model that integrates clinical care, medical training, research, public health education and community outreach with a common objective of improving the health status of all women across the life span.
TUXCOE is a collaborative effort of Tulane University Health Sciences Center (TUHSC) and Xavier University of Louisiana (Xavier).
The TUXCOE motto is, "It's about women; it's about time". Our mission is to facilitate access to health care services, to foster an interdisciplinary research agenda, to promote a women's health curriculum in conjunction with professional training and leadership of women in academic medicine, and to advance the knowledge of women's health issues in the community.
The center's administrative office functions as a clearinghouse for women's services, providing a single entry point for women in the community, health professionals, or any other individual or community organization seeking information about the center's services.
