Tulane Hispanic Health Initiative

ulane Hispanic Health Initiative (THHI) is a program of the Tulane Center for Clinical Effectiveness and Prevention (TCCEP)
Tulane Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, Louisiana

The Mission of the THHI is: " To promote in the most effective way, the health, well-being and empowerment of the Latino community in the Greater New Orleans area through disease prevention, treatment, research, and coalition building; resulting in client satisfaction"

THHI works in the following areas of Latino health: Hypertension, Stroke, Diabetes, Obesity, Nutrition, Health Risk Assessment and cancer prevention.

The activities of the THHI include: Research, mainly focussed on assessing the health status of Latinos in New Orleans, and searching for new methods to assess this population Medical Education, an elective class about Latino health is offered to first and second year Tulane medical students. Language appropriate health education materials are allocated  in a regular basis to individuals/institutions for their use with Latino clients.Community Outreach through local churches using the technical assistance of the American Heart Association, and the Redes en Accion support for cancer prevention.

 
 
We coordinate with:

with Tulane Medical Center, Department of Cardiology, Latin American Medical Student's Association-LAMSA, Tulane School of Public Health, Tulane Cancer Center, National Cancer Society, American Heart Association Southern Affiliate, Hispanic American Medical Association -HAMAL, CDC Diabetes prevention program, Immunization State Department, Louisiana Maternal and Child Health, Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP), Daughters of Charity Health Center in Carrollton, and others. At the national level, with the Redes en Accion for cancer prevention and control research. Also, local churches such as the Emmanuel Baptist Church, United Methodist Church; and local business.
